I went into this Old Navy haul full of hope. I genuinely thought this would be the plus size Old Navy haul to carry me through summer. I envisioned buttery-soft athleisure sets, comfy sundresses, and maybe even a surprise staple or two. Instead? I got see-through pants, ultra-cropped tops, and dresses that made me question my life choices.

If you’re shopping Old Navy as a plus size baddie this season, I’ve got the full breakdown: what almost worked, what totally flopped, and what you might actually want to try for yourself. Let’s get into this (tragically failed) plus size Old Navy haul.

Plus Size Athleisure

Top | Shorts

Let’s start with the set I wanted to love. The shorts were made from the dreamiest, buttery-soft material. Truly, I wanted to live in this fabric. But that’s where the joy ended. The matching bra top offered zero support. My love handles folded right over the sides, and there was very little coverage overall. The shorts? Also see-through. You could spot my panty line, dimples – everything.

Would I recommend this material? Yes, but maybe only if it came in pajama form. For actual wear in public? Hard pass.

Plus Size Old Navy Swimsuit

Swimsuit

Old Navy’s swimsuit design looked promising with its playful print and flirty skirt overlay. But once I put it on, it was a no from me. It wasn’t long enough in the torso, so I had to choose between shoulder straps digging into my skin or a wedgie situation. At 5’2”, I usually don’t struggle with suits being too short so this was a bit unexpected.

Stylish? Yes. Functional? Not for this body. It went straight back.

Plus Size Cropped Tops

Left Shirt | Right Shirt

Let’s talk about a button-down top that had me questioning everything. It had a massive gap in the chest, and if I dared raise my arms, I’d be flashing everyone. Was it meant for layering? Maybe. But worn alone? Absolutely not. The length made zero sense, and it wasn’t functional in any real way.

Another confusing piece? A butter-yellow tee that didn’t know if it was cropped or full-length. It sat in this weird in-between that made me feel totally uncomfortable.

Plus Size Pants

Jeans | White Pants | Trousers

There was one pair of pants that looked so good on the legs. The bell-bottom shape worked great with my apple body type and slim legs. But the material wasn’t stretchy enough and, yes, camel toe happened. Another miss.

Meanwhile, the white pants were a disaster. Totally see-through, pockets bulging out, and they were way too long on my petite frame. Even with white underwear, you could see everything. Not cute.

A similar pair in a different color fared better. The fabric was soft and stretchy, comfy enough to squat in. But they were loose at the waist and still a bit thin. Again, good for lounging. But not great for real life.

Plus Size Denim Shorts

Left | Right

One pair of shorts almost worked. The fit around the hips and thighs was surprisingly nice – a rare win for plus size shorts. But the inseam was too short and I felt like they’d creep up quickly.

A different pair, same size, was inexplicably way too small. My thighs are powerful, and I need shorts that either hug them or give me length. These did neither.

Plus Size Dresses

Blue Floral | Yellow Gingham | White Floral |Navy Cherries

This section hurts, because I love a good sundress moment. One had such a cute picnic vibe but was wildly tight around the hips and tummy while hanging loose on my chest. Another had a super weird fabric bunching issue right above the butt and showed my chafing shorts underneath. Why Old Navy, why?

There was one exception: a frilly floral dress with pockets that actually fit, had stretch, and wasn’t see-through. I almost kept it. But after the heartbreak of the entire order, I was too frustrated to keep anything. I returned it all.

Final Thoughts on This Plus Size Old Navy Haul

I’m currently around a size 24, and it’s honestly infuriating how inconsistent sizing and quality can be. A piece might fit beautifully in one color or cut, then be totally unwearable in another.

I’m also frustrated with how many brands, Old Navy included, have walked back their plus size inclusion efforts. Remember when they had extended sizing in store? Now it’s mostly online-only, and even then, fit and function are a gamble.

This isn’t a body issue. It’s a fashion industry issue.

As someone who’s been above a size 24, I know how limiting it can be when brands don’t cater to all sizes with the same quality and style. It’s frustrating that as my body shifts closer to a size 24, I finally gain access to more retailers, but that access shouldn’t be gatekept by size.

If you’re shopping plus size Old Navy this season, go in with low expectations and a good return policy. There are some cute styles out there, but between weird fits, see-through fabrics, and confusing crop lengths, it’s a gamble.
