Plus Size Stores in Portland // Where to Shop for Plus Size Clothing in Portland, Oregon

Plus Size Stores in Portland

If you are planning to make your way to Portland, Oregon and you are looking for plus size clothing options then I have the perfect list for you!

I recently took a trip to Portland and made it my mission to visit all of the local plus size stores. I wasn’t shocked to find that there really weren’t many stores to shop in, that’s pretty typical when it comes to plus size fashion. It’s all too common that stores don’t carry our size to being with, and then if they do, it’s online only. It can feel very isolating and frustrating to be a plus size shopper if you enjoy trying clothes on in store. I was excited to find these few locally owned businesses to peruse and a few even offer custom sizing!

I found some real plus size fashion gems during my visit and all of these shops are within 30 minutes of each other (traffic jams withstanding) and can be visited in one day. A few of these stores even have online websites so you can still shop these amazing small businesses from wherever you are! Now, come check out these Plus Size shops in Portland…

Union Rose is a modern, and vintage-inspired store in Portland, Oregon with independently designed fashion made right in the back of the store. If you don’t find your size in store, owner and designer Rita Hudson, can customize a garment for you! Her line Rita Hudson Apparel is made for people of all sizes and shapes with beautiful and comfortable fabrics.

During my shopping trip I saw their clothing tags go up to XXXL but there’s a section for “custom”. I found one that was a 4X and the sizing looked like it was a really great match to the 4X clothes I usually wear. While they might not stock everything in your size on the rack, it’s really wonderful to have the option to have something made just for you!

Union Rose also carries beautiful jewelry, accessories, and other fun gifts thrown in for good measure. If you’re unable to shop in person then make sure to check out the Union Rose website! In addition to plus size fashion, they have gorgeous jewelry, paper goods and even a witchy vibes section.

Altar is a small space within the store Cargo. Their clothing brand, Altar Houseline, is made in America using deadstock materials they and carry up to size 6XL. Since the fabric is deadstock, this means that they will make small runs in specific prints and colors, and when they’re sold out: they’re gone forever.

Altar strives to repeat classic styles that are staple elements that will last year-over-year, and they actually stand by their promise that they care about your products well after you’ve purchased them. For example, if you ever need to, you may bring your garment in for alterations or repairs!

Check out the Altar website to view their gorgeous plus size fashion, apothecary products, home goods, and accessories. You may use code FlyForAGinger for 10% off.

If you only visit one store on this list, make sure it’s Copper Union! You need to make an appointment to schedule in-store shopping but holy moly it’s worth it! Owner Claire Doody will take you around her shop and be your personal assistant through the whole process. As an added bonus, the dressing room has a fan to keep you cool!

During my visit I tried on a few different pieces and was thrilled to find their size 4 is similar to a Torrid size 4. This should make it easy to order from Copper Union online if you are unable to visit in person.

Clair has her studio next door which allows her to offer custom alterations and a pick-your-own option where you can choose or bring your own fabric to have a garment made in one of her styles. Copper Union carries a wide variety of options from swimsuits, dresses, and overalls to fun accessories!

Note – I am not including the address so folks don’t go without making an appointment first!

If you’re a fan of resale shopping but always have a hard time finding your size (same), then this store will have you on cloud 9! Not only do they only carry plus sizes, but they are all sectioned out by size! I was able to find multiple plus-size pieces (shown above) as well as some really fun and unique accessories.

As an added bonus, they also carry more masculine clothing options. My boyfriend Corey, who is big and tall, was able to find a short-sleeved button-down shirt that he loves!

I Want Seconds does not currently offer pieces for sale online but hopefully, they will soon! Until then, make sure to head to visit them in person next time you are in Portland, Oregon.

If you are in town and interested in selling your like-new plus size clothes, you can make a selling appointment here.

While this shop isn’t necessarily geared towards plus size fashion, it is worth mentioning. Midtowners Market is a vintage market with multiple vendors showcasing their collections. One of the sections does include a small rack of exclusively plus size clothing.

While I was visiting Midtowners Market they let me know they are working towards reorganizing so hopefully, when you go to visit there will be a larger and easier-to-find selection!

I searched through the items they had but most pieces weren’t my size or my style, however, I did grab a vintage bag and some really cute hairclips! Midtowners Market does not have online shopping options but they do have a website with more information here.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post about plus size shops in Portland, Oregon! I had such a blast shopping at all of these locations and I am so excited about the treasures I found!
