Fly Friends, the time for rebuilding your plus size closets is now! I’ve done some major closet cleanouts in the past few years, and they are so essential. A lot of times after a closet cleanout I find myself in need of some new basics. Pieces that will mix and match with everything in my closet and make building outfits a lot easier. Lately, I’ve realized that having good basics is worth spending a little extra cash, but I’m going to show you something for every budget. I’m going over my favorite places to shop for plus size basics in today’s blog post!
Universal Standard
Universal Standard carries sizes 00-40, making their plus size range one of the largest available. They have the most gorgeous luxe basics in sustainable and excellent quality fabrics. These may be investment pieces, but wow are they worth it! Universal Standard offers a size guide, product measurements, a fit finder feature, and the option to see items in your size for most of their products, making it even easier to choose your perfect style, size, and fit online. Madewell is another great one-stop-shop type brand. You can definitely make a plus size capsule wardrobe with this brand alone. They play a bit more with colors and patterns than Universal Standard, but still have luxe high-quality fabrics and sustainable styles. Madewell jeans have gone viral in the past year, especially in the plus size community. They recently revamped their entire plus size fit and the reviews coming in are almost all five-star. They also carry some adventurous basic pieces like plus size boiler suits, plus size shackets, and plus size midi styles. If you want a bit of trend mixed in with your essential pieces, this is the brand for you.
Old Navy Plus Size Basics
Old Navy is a classic that has been known for its plus size budget-friendly basics for years! They carry my favorite affordable plus size denim. They also have cohesive color stories in their collections so that when you buy a few pieces at the same time you can mix and match them. Multiple pieces will be released in the same color or print to give you more options. If you really love an old navy print but don’t need a dress at the moment, chances are that they also have a top in that print that could better serve your wardrobe! ELOQUII
If you’re looking for plus size workwear essentials, ELOQUII is the place to be. Their “Work Anywhere” collection has its own category on their website so everything is easy to find. They still incorporate plus size statement pieces, bold colors, and textured fabrics, but in classic cuts and plus size styles appropriate for work. Target Plus Size Essentials
Target is a great choice to get your plus size basics and essentials because you can also shop in-store and there’s almost always a Target in the area if you are traveling and forget something or lose your luggage. They carry everything from plus size denim to plus size workwear to plus size athletic pieces and serve up to a size 32 in-store. The plus size selection is definitely better online as they have online-only pieces, but it’s comforting to know that you’ll always be able to find something at Target.
Torrid
Torrid has been a go-to for plus size people for years, and for good reason. They have the best basics and essentials! Their plus size tees come in different fits and are all buttery soft, they have amazing plus size denim, and their accessories are plus size friendly. Jewelry chains are longer, rings are bigger, belts are longer, and shoes are all wide-width. Torrid is a great place to find wide-width shoes. They also have some of the plus size community’s favorite plus size bras and underwear. Whether you’re looking for a sexy lingerie set or a classic nude bra and underwear fit for everyday wear, Torrid has you covered. They also carry basics like denim jackets, coats, and long sleeve tops for winter.
My Plus Size Essentials
Here are the pieces that I think every plus size babe should have in their closet! These pieces are versatile, cover multiple occasions, and can mix and match well. Much like branding for a business, choosing a color palette can really help when you’re picking your basics and essentials. Knowing what colors you wear the most can help inform which basics to buy that will pair well with what’s already in your closet. A good rule to follow is to make sure that every time you purchase something, you can see it styled in at least 3 completely different ways with other items in your closet. Buying solid-color basics can also ensure that these pieces will stay around for a while and be used frequently because they are more likely to pair well with others.
