Summer Psoriasis Tips
I’m comin’ at you with more summer psoriasis tips, Fly Friends! You know that I love sharing my tips and tricks for babes with dry skin. These are some of the psoriasis-approved products that I use to keep my skin safe in the summertime.
Sugar Scrub for Summer Psoriasis
“Elevate your self-care ritual with the invigorating scent of juicy, ripe mangoes set in a tropical rainforest. Nourish and hydrate dull, dry skin with a rich, exfoliating body scrub featuring Real Sugar, Shea Butter, and Mango.”
My summer psoriasis care starts in the shower. I avoid hot water as it can be drying and damaging to the skin and go for warm or a bit cold instead if it’s really hot out. I like to use a gentle exfoliant like this sugar scrub to reduce flakes.
Make Sure to Moisturize
Obviously, moisturizing is a huge part of psoriasis skin care. Moisturizing immediately after a shower is key to lock in moisture. I love using this applicator to make sure that I can soothe hard-to-reach spots like the middle of my back. This tool is also great for disabled friends and babes who live alone. Not everyone has a bestie roommate they can ask to rub in their lotion for them!
Choose a Lotion With Zero Fragrance or Alochol
“As a psoriasis treatment, salicylic acid acts as a scale lifter, helping to soften and remove psoriasis scales, and allowing other topical medication to better penetrate affected skin. Coal tar is known to help slow the overgrowth of skin cells occurring in psoriasis and helps reduce the inflammation, itching, and scaling of psoriasis. Doctors recommend combining salicylic acid use with other treatments, including coal tar, to enhance psoriasis treatment effectiveness.”
Speaking of moisturizing, this lotion is my favorite. Alcohol and fragrances can irritate the skin and possibly dry it out even more, so it’s important to avoid these ingredients when looking for a daily moisturizer. This brand has an entire line of shower and skin products that you can find by scrolling down on the product page!
Sunscreen for Summer Psoriasis
Sun exposure can be great for your psoriasis but make sure to limit exposure and always use sunblock. These are my three favorites. All three can be used on both your body and your face. I really love the sheer tint hydrating sunscreen from Cerave because it acts as a lightweight BB cream.

Avoid Bug Bites
“When you’re spending long periods outside, avoid sunburn and bug bites by protecting your scalp with a hat and your skin with loose, breezy clothing. When you reach for the bug spray, apply it to your clothes instead of directly on your skin.”
If you’re choosing a bug spray, it always helps to find a product like this one that includes skin-soothing ingredients like Aloe and Vitamin E. It is important not to spray your skin directly, but on your clothing instead! This helps avoid skin irritation.
Stay Hydrated
Everyone knows that staying hydrated is good for your skin! Using a water bottle with markings on it to track your progress can be really helpful. I like this one because it includes little motivating messages along the way.
Lightweight Breathable Clothing
Wearing lightweight and breathable natural fabrics can help avoid skin irritation. Of course, this helps with psoriasis, but it’s also just a great summer tip in general. It also helps avoid chafing and heat rash. I love the stretch linen collection from Universal Standard.
